Inclusion PDF Print E-mail
The voluntary and community sector are committed to tackling poverty and social exclusion.  However, progress is in danger of being reversed by the international economic downturn.  Social exclusion represents a classic problem issues for national and local organisations.  The challenge is multi-dimensional, complex, multi-generational and resistant to simple solutions or short-term initiatives. Any effective response must be long-term and multi-faceted. Clearly, national Governments will continue to play an important role in tackling these issues. We also believe that local organisations and the community and voluntary sector are now in a stronger position to effect change and add value. inclusion1

Whilst resources may now be very tight, there are new opportunities to devise and deliver innovative approaches to tackling social exclusion in local areas. In collaboration with the voluntary sector and local communities it may be possible to better address complex issues, for example:

inclusion2 • How can families in challenging situations be better supported through early interventions?
• How can investments in housing be effectively linked to social inclusion programmes?
• How do we raise the capacity and aspirations of communities?
• How can investment in adult skills best contribute to reducing child poverty?
• How do we effectively mitigate the impact of the economic downturn on already vulnerable communities and families?

Our own extensive work in the field of tackling social and economic disadvantage over the last two decades has seen us undertake detailed research in a wide range of local, regional and national interventions.  We are now able to offer your organisation the benefit of successfully developing, implementing and reviewing multi-dimensional initiatives designed to break the cycle of disadvantage, and to meaningfully transform both people and places simultaneously. Our services and expertise include the following:

• Mapping and analysis of social exclusion indicators – using a variety of quantitative, model-based, and qualitative approaches.
• Research and policy development – to identify issues and opportunities and clarify options for policy makers.
• Strategic development – bringing key partners together to develop long-term approaches.
• Implementation planning – working with funding bodies to ensure that strategic aspirations are delivered.
• Partnership support and facilitation –building capacity and trust at al levels.
• Learning and evaluation – devising frameworks, processes and indicators to measure and learn from experience.
